The Flushing Meadow NYC Soap Box Derby (FMNYCSBD), a non-profit, charitable, tax-exempt corporation, is soliciting your support in sponsoring the All-American Soap Box Derby trials in New York City. The All-American Soap Box Derby (AASBD) is a national event that has taken place in Akron, Ohio since 1934. Young people, between the ages of eight (8) and seventeen (17), build and race non-motorized cars fueled by gravity and engineered by their personal skills and imagination. As you may envision, the creative talents of the participants are challenged as they acquire new and useful information about their environment. The Akron sponsors and many others, award the participants with gifts and academic scholarships to encourage them to continue their education and competitive spirit. This year Akron will host more than five hundred (500) young people from as far away as Germany, Australia, Japan and nearly every state in the nation. It will be a memorable and worthwhile experience for the champions and their families.
YOUR SUPPORT
The cost of purchasing and sponsoring one young person is $650.00; this includes the cost of materials to assemble the car and a registration fee. Our organization must also pay a licensing fee to the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron which covers the cost of insurance and other incidentals. Your support can take many forms. For instance, your organization may elect to be the sole sponsor of a car or contribute employee/employer matching funds or donate any amount you may desire. Keep in mind that all contributions are tax deductible and if you are a business you may also attach your logo or name on the car as advertisement. The money received from these initiatives assists with the cost of transporting the champs and their cars to different race events.
